LaSalle Bank Building Fire Recovery
After
the raging fire on the 29th and 30th floors of the LaSalle Bank building in
downtown Chicago on December 6, 2004 was extinguished, a tenant on a lower floor
felt the residual effects caused by water damage from putting out the fire.
Chelsea Group was brought in a few weeks after the fire occurred to determine
the condition of the tenant’s space following the disaster recovery.
The Chelsea team performed a series of tests and measurements including sampling
the air for mold, asbestos, lead, microbial volatile organic compounds (mVOC),
and particulate matter. The project included thorough visual observation of the
tenant’s space and direct measurement of moisture content of building materials
using hand held probes.
Chelsea Group used independent, accredited laboratories to analyze the samples
that were taken on site. Chelsea Group provided a written assessment that
combined visual observations, direct measurement results, and the laboratory
reports. The report provided the information the tenant needed to be comfortable
that the building was safe to occupy.
"You know, we're all unpacking boxes, but I think you see a sense of relief and
gratitude for those who helped get the building back," said Shawn Platt, a bank
spokesman. "Everyone just feels really good about being back here." – quoted in
an interview with WMAQ-TV Chicago
